In Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, you have to follow a seven step program to financial freedom.

 

  1. $ 1000 in the bank.  ( $ 500 if income is under $20,000 a year)

 

You should save for three basic reasons:

  • Emergency Fund
  • Purchases
  • Wealth Building

 

             2.Pay off all debt using the Debt Snowball

To work with this application, you need to make a list of all your debt; not including your house payment. You need to list out you Total payouts, Minimum Payments, and New Payment.  When you pay off the smallest debt; then , you work to the next debt. Before you know it, you will have all miscellaneous debt paid.

 

           3. 3 to 6 months of expenses in savings.

 

In our lives, we all go through”times of famine.” Whether it’s a layoff, lengthly illness, large financial loss, etc., we need to be prepared and save up while we can. It will allow us to better cope during tough times and, in some case, to survive.

 

 

               4. Invest 15% of your household income into Roth Iras and pretax      retirement plans.

For most of us, the number one challenge in the quest to stay in shape and/or lose weight is not exercising itself; but, it is being able to actually fit into our busy schedules.

 

I have found that they are five points that will help you to be able to fit a consistent workout plan into your already hectic life.

  •  1.  Commit to a specific schedule

When you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Don’t get into the habit of working out     “when I have time”. You need to take your calendar and schedule some kind of exercise every day. I enjoy walking weekdays and hiking on weekends.

 

You need to take advantage
of the facts; that to have an effective, result producing workout, you can do
it with 3 – 5 days a week. One of the benefits to plan exercise in the weekend
is this gives you more flexibility into your weekdays. Make it a family
adventure weekend hike.

 

  •  3.  Keep your workouts a high priority

One of the biggest mistakes
is to bump your workout off of your schedule. We take time for our work,
family; but, we tend to skip the important things for ourselves. So change that
habit today !

 

  • 4. Enroll others in your goals.

Don’t go at it alone. You
can work out together with a family member or a friend. You can check with your
local recreation department for a walking or swimming group.  This is a great way to keep the accountability
going in your plan to become healthy.

 

  • 5.  Don’t beat yourself up

No matter who you are, there
will be times when you just can’t workout. You get sick or family emergencies.
You need to handle the stress of life and get back on track as soon as
possible. This is meant to be a stress reliever; not, something to add more
stress to your life.

Are you at risk for Diabetes? The first thing you need to know is what diabetes is.  Diabetes, as defined by Wikipedia, is a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has
high blood sugar, either because the body does not produce enough insulin or
because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced.

 

How does diabetes affect your body?  To begin, glucose, which is sugar from the
foods that we eat, fuels our body. Insulin is the hormone that is produced from
the pancreas. It is what gets the glucose from the bloodstream to the cells. When
part of this process breaks down, the result is diabetes.

This high blood sugar produces the classic symptoms :

  • Frequent Urination
  • Increased Thirst
  • Increased Hunger

If you have these symptoms, it is important to have a glucose  test with your doctor to diagnose diabetes.

 

There are three types of diabetes:

  • Type 1 Diabetes

This is when for some reason the body’s own immune system
attacks and destroys the insulin cells. Five percent of people with diabetes
develop this type and are generally under the age of 30 at diagnosis.

  • Type 2 Diabetes

This is when the body is still able to produce insulin. Either the body does not           produce enough insulin or the body may be resistant to the insulin that’s available. Between 90 and 95% of people with diabetes have  Type 2 diabetes.

 

  • Gestational Diabetes

This occurs in pregnant women and it is first diagnosed during or after the sixth           month of pregnancy. It is brought on by the normal hormonal and weight changes in the body. Later in life they are at a higher risk for type 2.

 

What can you do to prevent diabetes?

  • Maintaining a healthy weight which helps you feel better
    and helps you deal with stress better.
  • Keeping physically active which helps improve blood
    circulation and pressure. It also helps you sleep better and helps you have
    more energy.
  • Making better choices in your eating habits which helps
    your insulin work better; reduces blood glucose levels; and lowers your
    cholesterol.
  • Regular doctor visits

 

It is better to live a healthy life; now, than to have to deal with the symptoms later.

Obesity in children is the result of  eating too many calories and not getting enough physical activity.

Overweight children are much more likely to  become overweight adults unless they adopt and maintain healthier patterns of  eating and exercise.  In fact, 30% of  adult obesity begins in childhood. According to the CDC, obesity accounts for more than 300,000 deaths a  year and the annual cost to society for obesity is estimated at nearly $ 100 billion per year.

Obesity rates among all children in the United States:

  •  Approximately 17% (or 12.5
    million) of children and adolescents aged 2-19 years are obese.
  • Since 1980, obesity
    prevalence among children and adolescents has almost tripled.

What is Childhood Obesity?

Wikipedia describes childhood  obesity is a condition where excess body fat negatively affects a child’s health or wellbeing. As methods to determine body fat directly are difficult, the diagnosis of obesity is often based on BMI. Due to the rising prevalence of obesity in children and its many adverse healthy effects, it is recognized as a serious public health concern. The term overweight rather than obese is often used in children as it is less stigmatizing.

What can we do?

  •  The only way to lose weight  is to reduce the number of calories eaten and increase physical activity.
  • We need to set an example.
  • The meals that we prepare need to healthy, keeping fatty and sugary snacks to a
    minimum. We need to keep fresh fruit, vegetables, and low-fat snacks available.
  • Whether eating at home or in  a restaurant, portion control and better choices are important for all of us in
    healthy eating.
  • Because, children are looking  for acceptance, we need to emphasize and encourage a healthy lifestyle begins
    with good nutrition and activity. We love them for whom they are inside and out.
  • We should make sure that  children have 60 minutes of moderate activity every day. This can be a
    great family time activity for everyone to live healthy.

 

Obesity in  children is something that we all need to take responsibility for before it
gets too late. With the portion sizes and calorie dense choices in restaurants,
children are eating adult amounts of food and not getting the daily exercise to
use the calories. We can teach our children about better choices in their
eating habits.  We can add more activity  everyday for our children. With these changes in lifestyle, we can all live a
better life.

I was an out of work real estate agent.  My husband was in college full time.Knowing that we had to make an income,  I found a way to support my family; while, I help people everyday.

It gave me the flexibility to work local; while, my kids are in school. I have my evenings to enjoy the great things in life.
